Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks.
If you use Gaim Messenger as your an IM client, then you might want to setting up Gaim to use the GoogleTalk servers, please follow these instructions below:
- Open Gaim.
- Click “Accounts” at the bottom of the login page.
- Click “Add” after the “Accounts” window opens.
- Enter the following information in the “Add Account” window:
- Protocol: Jabber
- Screen Name: enter your full Gmail username (everything before “@gmail.com”)
- Server: gmail.com
- Password: we suggest leaving this field blank for increased security, but if you’d like to log in automatically, enter your Gmail password
- Alias: leave this field blank
- Remember password: check the box if you’d like Gaim to remember your password (you won’t be prompted to enter it each time you log in, if you select this option)
- Auto-login: check the box if you’d like to connect to the Google Talk service each time you use Gaim
- Protocol: Jabber
- Screen Name: enter your full host username (everything before “@yourdomain.com”)
- Server: yourdomain.com
- Password: we suggest leaving this field blank for increased security, but if you’d like to log in automatically, enter your domain password
- Alias: leave this field blank
- Remember password: check the box if you’d like Gaim to remember your password (you won’t be prompted to enter it each time you log in, if you select this option)
- Auto-login: check the box if you’d like to connect to the Google Talk service each time you use Gaim
- Click the “+” next to “Show more options.”
- Enter the following information in the section that appears:
- Jabber Options: Check the box next to “Use TLS if available” and leave the other boxes unchecked.
- Port: 5222
- Connect server: talk.google.com
- Proxy type: Use Global Proxy Settings
- Click “Save.”

doesn’t work, really. How could i trace?
Any error message? gmail domain or your own domain? Try to check your gaim connection setting. Perhaps about proxy setting option. Try to change “Use Global Proxy Settings” to “No Proxy”. Good Luck…
It still doesn’t work with no proxy via gaim(couldn’t connect to host) !!!!!!!! I am also having problems connecting via gtalk. It says “Could not connect to the Google Talk service (error 1)” on gtalk! :-S
It does not work…
. In my case, it returns connection time out. I filled the field values as suggested above…

I want to use google talk
I am having problems connecting via gtalk. It says “Could not connect to the Google Talk service (error 1)” on gtalk! :-S
Alternative information for yourdomain on gmail is worked out for me.
i have the same error 1 message…i tryed with fire wall…. its not working
