<h4>Change Authentication Method</h4>
<p>We need to edit file <strong>pg_hba.conf</strong> to change authentification method for accessing PostgreSQL database.</p>

<p>For example, if you want <em>postgres</em> to manage its own users (not linked with system users), you will add the following line:</p>

This tutorial is how to install LAMP on Ubuntu Desktop.
Linux
Here are several steps to install Ubuntu Linux Desktop if you have not already done so.

First download and burn your own installation CD file from the Ubuntu Linux site or order a free CD from Shipit &#8211; Free CDs.
Second, try out your new Ubuntu Linux without changing anything on your computer by booting the installation CD. This is a great way to test compatibility with your computer.
Third, install Ubuntu Linux permanently on your computer by double-clicking the install icon on your temporary desktop.

Download the Ubuntu Linux Desktop ISO CD image from the Ubuntu Linux site.
Burn a bootable CD from the ISO CD image.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The acronym LAMP refers to a set of free software programs commonly used together to run dynamic Web sites or servers <strong>L</strong>inux, the operating system; <strong>A</strong>pache, the Web server; <strong>M</strong>ySQL, the database management system (or database server) and <strong>P</strong>erl, <strong>P</strong>HP, and/or <strong>P</strong>ython, scripting languages.</p>
<p>This tutorial is how to install LAMP on Ubuntu Desktop.</p>
<h3>Linux</h3>
<p>Here are several steps to install Ubuntu Linux Desktop if you have not already done so.</p>
<ul>
<li>First download and burn your own installation CD file from the Ubuntu Linux site or order a free CD from Shipit &#8211; Free CDs.</li>
<li>Second, try out your new Ubuntu Linux without changing anything on your computer by booting the installation CD. This is a great way to test compatibility with your computer.</li>
<li>Third, install Ubuntu Linux permanently on your computer by double-clicking the install icon on your temporary desktop.
<ol>
<li>Download the Ubuntu Linux Desktop ISO CD image from the Ubuntu Linux site.</li>
<li>Burn a bootable CD from the ISO CD image.</li>
<li>Boot the CD on the target machine. Make sure the network is connected. If all is successful, Ubuntu Linux will start up in a fully functional friendly desktop environment. Experiment for a while if you like.</li>
<li>Double-click on the installer icon on the desktop to permanently install Linux.</li>
<li>Enter Name, Username, Password, and Time Zone. Set the clock if necessary. Choose automatic partition and format to erase the previous operating system. </li>
<li>WARNING &#8211; This will wipe out everything on the target machine hard drive.</li>
<li>Wait.</li>
<li>Restart.</li>
<li>Remove the CD to prevent starting over.</li>
<li>Type Enter to boot.</li>
<li>Login.
        </li>
</ol>
</li>
</ul>
<h3>Apache</h3>
<p>Install Apache</p>

<p>Testing HTTP Server by open a web browser and enter http://localhost</p>

Be sure to remove the file afterwards, as it may pose a security risk.</p>

<h3>MySQL</h3>
<p>Install MySQL Server</p>

<p>MySQL initially only allows connections from the localhost (127.0.0.1). We&#8217;ll need to remove that restriction if you wish to make it accessible to everyone on the internet. Open the file /etc/mysql/my.cnf</p>

<pre>gksudo gedit /etc/mysql/my.cnf</pre>
</div>
<p>Find the line bind-address = 127.0.0.1 and comment it out then save the file.<br />
MySQL comes with no root password as default. This is a huge security risk. You&#8217;ll need to set one. So that the local computer gets root access as well, you&#8217;ll need to set a password for that too. The local-machine-name is the name of the computer you&#8217;re working on.</p>

If you are lucky enough to have a good, high-speed Internet connection, the first part of the Kubuntu desktop installation may have seemed pretty speedy.  Now it&#8217;s time to install the download packages, which can also take a fair bit of time.</p>
<p>Somewhere in the course of the packages installation, a window pops up asking you to make a decision on your choice of login manager. The default login manager for Kubuntu is KDM. Therefore change your default login manager from GDM to KDM. Just click the drop-down list and select KDM. Then click Forward to reconfigure.</p>
<p>You&#8217;re finished. You can safely log out or even want to reboot your system given the number of changes that have occurred. Go a head <img src='http://supriyadisw.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  When the login manager comes back up, you have to manually select KDE as your desktop environment.</p>
<p>At this point, you can stop if you want to keep your Ubuntu system continue to be an Ubuntu system and offer both the GNOME desktop and KDE desktop. You can choice using Ubuntu or Kubuntu when you log in. But if you want fully turning Ubuntu into Kubuntu, you can follow the next step.</p>
<h3>Uninstalling The Ubuntu Desktop</h3>
<p>To uninstall all the other junk, open up a terminal and copy and paste this into your terminal:</p>

<p>After downloading, the file that you downloaded is saved in .tar.gz format; this is a compressed bundle containing the files in the Movable Type distribution. Unpack this archive.</p>

<h3>Initialize Movable Type</h3>
<p>Type the following URL into your browser: http://your-server-ip-address/myblog/mt-wizard.cgi. Make sure your myblog writable by server <img src='http://supriyadisw.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> . This Wizard will make configuration file into your myblog folder.</p>

<h4>Wget</h4>

<p>Wget works particularly well with slow or unstable connections by continuing to retrieve a document until the document is fully downloaded. Re-getting files from where it left off works on servers (both http and ftp) that support it. Both http and ftp retrievals can be time stamped, so wget can see if the remote file has changed since the last retrieval and automatically retrieve the new version if it has.</p>
<p>Wget supports proxy servers; this can lighten the network load, speed up retrieval, and provide access behind firewalls.</p>

Dialogs display info about status of transfers &#8211; progress, size, speed and remaining time. Program supports drag &amp; drop from KDE applications and Netscape.</p>

<p>This package is part of KDE, as a component of the KDE network module. Therefore you need to install another KDE packages to run KGET on your Ubuntu Edgy Eft.</p>
<h3>Firefox Support</h3>
<p>Firefox is a default web browser for Ubuntu Edgy Eft. FlashGot is a popular download extension for Firefox. <h3>Just my Two Cents</h3>
<p>Usually I use KDE KGET + Flashgot for my Download Manager. This integration make my download activity become fun. Perhaps I will try GWGET for my next tool. GWGET have some interesting features, such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>Resume: By default, gwget tries to continue any download.</li>
<li>Notification: Gwget tries to use the Gnome notification area support, if available. You can close the main window and gwget runs in the background.</li>
<li>Recursivity: Gwget detects when you put a html, php, asp or a web page dir in the url to download, and ask you to only download certain files (multimedia, only the index, and so on).</li>
<li>Drag &amp; Drop: You can d&amp;d a url to the main gwget window or the notification area icon to add a new download.<br />
