Change Default Thumbnail Size in WordPress 2.3

in Blogging/Tutorial/Wordpress by

Here is a simple guide how to change the default size of the thumbnails that WordPress 2.3 creates when you upload an image.

It is actually quite easy to change – it just requires modification of one WordPress file.

From time to time I wonder just how big the image thumbnails are, and occasionally I even ponder how to go about changing that thumbnail size.

The size for the thumbnail creation in WordPress 2.3 could be changed in the /wp-admin/includes/image.php file.

Just open the file and search for:

$max_side = apply_filters('ws6q9jzl7p_thumbnail_max_side_length',
128, $attachment_id, $file);

and change it to:

$max_side = apply_filters('ws6q9jzl7p_thumbnail_max_side_length',
256, $attachment_id, $file);

That will double the thumbnail size like mine πŸ˜‰

Well done and have a great day!

BlogRush – Free Traffic for Your Blog

in Blogging/Fun/Internet/Monetize/Widget/Wordpress by

Do you need more readers for your blog? The most basic needed for the bloggers is always how to get more readers or in the other is how to “finding traffic”. Right?

BlogRush is a free service that was created to help bloggers get more readers for their blogs.

BlogRush is essentially a way to syndicate content across blogs. By adding the BlogRush Widget to a blog, a blogger can get instant distribution for their latest blog post titles across a network of related blogs.

How does BlogRush work?

BlogRush users earn “syndication credits” (the right to have their blog post titles shown inside a widget on another related blog) based on their own traffic (loads of the widget) as well as the traffic of other users they refer to BlogRush. Users can automatically refer others to BlogRush via special links on the widget, as well as through the promotion of a special referral URL they are given.

BlogRush is a “Cooperative Syndication Network” that rewards its users for their contributions to the network — from the impressions they provide of the BlogRush Widget to the referral of other users through 10 ‘generations’ of activity and the impressions of the widget that they provide. BlogRush was designed to be incredibly viral and to provide its users with tremendous distribution leverage to receive exposure for their blog content (onto related content blogs) that they could never achieve on their own; at least without a massive advertising budget.

Will You Get Traffic From BlogRush?

BlogRush WidgetThe short answer is yes, of course you will get some. However don’t expect miracles. Even if the uptake on BlogRush is significant, which it will be, in my experience the click-through rates on these sorts of traffic exchanges are terrible.

How to use Blogrush

  • First, you need create a Blogrush account,
  • You can add your blog into your Blogrush profile,
  • Get the code and put this on your blog’s sidebar,
  • Sit back and you will get more readers for your blog.

Have a great day and gud lak! πŸ™‚

How To Turn off Post Preview in 2.1

in Blogging/Tutorial/Wordpress by

WordPress 2.1 has a cool feature such as the post preview. When you save a post or edit a post down at the bottom of the post page you are presented with a preview of your post.

This preview shows the whole page (not just the post text), logo, navigation, everything that is on the main page.

This feature is very useful to preview your post before you publish it. I really like this feature but I don’t always want to use it. However, the thing is with that, my bandwidth has soared considerably. Is there anyway to turn this preview option off ?

Yes, you can turning off post preview feature.

Just open the wp-admin/post.php file and delete these lines (located near line #70 – #73 in WP 2.1):

<div id='preview' class='wrap'>
<h2 id="preview-post"><?php
_e('Post Preview (updated when post is saved)'); ?></h2>
<iframe src="<?php
echo attribute_escape(apply_filters('preview_post_link',
add_query_arg('preview', 'true',
get_permalink($post->ID)))); ?>"
width="100%" height="600" ></iframe>

Doing so will save bandwidth, load time, processing time, etc.

Have a great day and gud lak!

Thumbnail Size with WordPress 2.1

in Blogging/Tutorial/Wordpress by

WordPress 2.1 has come with some really nice updates, however, like the previous versions, there is still one problem with the images.

I feel the thumbnail image in Wordress is too small for my taste’s and so i need to be able to adjust the image size automatically when uploading into the system. The maximum image was 128px width.

In my older WordPress, I was using before, the size for the thumbnail creation could be changed in the inline-upload.php. You can view my post about How to Resize Thumbnail Image in WordPress. But now, this file has disappeared.

Don’t worry! You still able to edit thumbnail size in WordPress 2.1 πŸ˜‰ The size for the thumbnail creation could be changed in the admin_functions.php.

Just open the file and search for:

$max_side = apply_filters( 'ws6q9jzl7p_thumbnail_max_side_length',
128, $attachment_id, $file );

and change it to:

$max_side = apply_filters( 'ws6q9jzl7p_thumbnail_max_side_length',
256, $attachment_id, $file );

That will double the thumbnail size like mine πŸ™‚

The disadvantage from this method is you need to edit “wp-admin/admin_functions.php” file again when you upgrade your WordPress version, because the new “wp-admin/admin_functions.php” file from the newest version will overwrite your “wp-admin/admin_functions.php” file.

Hopefully, in an upcoming WordPress release, they will give us a preference on thumbnail sizes.

Have a great day!

Full RSS Feeds on my blog

in Adsense/Article/Blogging/Internet/Monetize/Wordpress by

I switched my blog’s RSS feeds from partial feeds to full text feeds. Past I used partial text feed for several reasons.

First, since RSS Subscribers get to read the full blog content inside their newsreaders, they would never visit my actual blog. I think my pageviews will decrease then would impact the advertising revenue, such as Google Adsense. As we know Google Adsense is a PPC program, more traffic, more pageviews, and more money. πŸ˜‰

Second, you could get my content for your own sites easily. Just install auto blog, add my feed into your blog, then you will get all my content into your blog.

Inspirated by Digital Inspiration posting Do You Publish Full Text Feeds Or Partial RSS Feeds?, I will try to publish my RSS feeds with full text feeds.

I have my own reason. First, let’s try this method. Hopefully my RSS Subscribers would grow. Second, I had enabled feedvertising on my blog. It’s would be an alternative way to monetize my blog beside Google Adsense.

Summary Text Feeds

Summary Text Feeds

Full Text Feeds

Hopefully I would get good result about this. Wish me luck! πŸ˜€
