PKWare, the company credited with the creation of the Zip file-compression format, is offering free licenses for its latest program, SecureZip, for a limited period of time.
SecureZIP – The next generation of ZIP, is a data security software program that allows users to protect files and folders on their hard drives, portable storage devices, and laptops from theft or unauthorized access. Email attachments can also be protected with SecureZIP as well.
How does it work? It uses strong passphrase or digital certificate-based encryption to protect the files and folders that you want to secure. Secured files are also compressed when secureZIP is enforced.
SecureZip Standard can save compressed files as Zip, TAR and Java Archive (jar) files or as self-extracting (exe) executables – the module for creating self-extracting archives comes as standard with V11, rather than being an add-on.
The application also integrates with popular e-mail clients, such as Microsoft Corp.’s Outlook, to let users encrypt and digitally sign both the message body and any file attachments.
To use the application, you need to download the software which is extremely simple:
- go to www.securezip.com
- enter your email address
- check your email box there is a message with instructions.
