Using Gmail with Thunderbird

in Google/Tutorial by

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usThese instructions are for adding Gmail as a second (or subsequent) account in Thunderbird. I did this instruction to read my email (host in Gmail) with Thunderbird. This instructions taken from Using Gmail with Thunderbird and Mozilla Suite. Thank’s for the instructions 😀

Create a new account in Thunderbird

  • Open Thunderbird Mail, go to “Tools -> Account Settings” , click the “Add Account” button, select “Email Account” and click “Next“.
  • Enter my name in the “Your Name:” field, and enter my entire Gmail address me[at]supriyadisw[dot]net in the “Email Address:” field. Click the “Next” button.
  • Select “POP” as the account type and enter pop.gmail.com in the “Incoming Server” field. I don’t want my Gmail messages to be stored in Local Folders, so I unselect “Use Global Inbox (Store Mail in Local Folders)“. Click the “Next” button.
  • Enter my entire Gmail address me[at]supriyadisw[dot]net in both the “Incoming User Name:” field and the “Outgoing User Name:” field. Click the “Next” button.
  • Enter a name (such as “supriyadisw”) for my Gmail account in the “Account Name:” field, click the “Next” button and then the “Finish” button. There will now be new account showing in “Account Settings” called “supriyadisw” or whatever I named it.

Add additional account settings

  • Still in “Account Settings“, click on “Server Settings” (under “supriyadisw” in the left panel) and select the checkbox for “Use Secure Connection (SSL)“. Optionally, also select the checkbox for “Check for new messages every 10 minutes“. I don’t select anything else.
  • Next, click on “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” in the left panel , click the “Advanced” button and click the “Add” button.
  • In the “Server Name” field I write smtp.gmail.com. The “Use name and password” box must be selected. In the “User Name” field enter my entire Gmail address me[at]supriyadisw[dot]net. Under “Use Secure Connection” select SSL. After selecting SSL, the port number will automatically change from 25 to 465. This is correct! Now click “OK” and “OK” again. (Note: for all Gmail accounts SSL should be used!)
  • Go back to “Server Settings” under “supriyadisw“, click the “Advanced” button and then the “SMTP” tab. In the “Server” field drop-down select the last one. Normally it will be smtp.gmail.com:465. Click the “POP” tab and select “Inbox for this server’s account“. Click the “OK” button. Close Thunderbird and restart the application.

Enable POP in Gmail

I also need to perform one last step: log in to my Gmail account using the web interface and enable POP for the account. After logging into my Gmail account, I click on “Settings -> Forwarding and POP -> POP Download:” and choose either “Enable POP for all mail (even mail that’s already been downloaded)” or “Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on“. (Either option I choose that fits my needs will work here.) Finally, I click the “Save Changes” button.

Well done. Good Luck…

Gmail Beta Tester Invitation

in Google/Tutorial by

I just check my email and I got email from Google Team. The subject is “Gmail for supriyadisw.net beta tester invitation”. I’m so glad. Why? Because my application about Gmail for my domain was accepted.

Welcome to our beta test!

Thanks for helping us test Gmail for your domain! We’re excited to
help you offer Gmail accounts with your domain.

Here’s how to get started:

  • First, log in with the same Google Account I used to volunteer to become a beta tester.
  • Next, they’ll guide me through a series of steps to register my domain for this service.
  • They’ll then ask me to create a new administrative account for my domain. Most people choose something like admin@mydomain.
  • I can then log in to the control panel with my administrative account. Within the control panel, I can create new users, modify or suspend accounts, create aliases and lists, and customize the look and feel of Gmail for mydomain. I can even upload whole lists of new users with the bulk upload feature, and assign administrative rights to multiple accounts.
  • Finally, I’ll need to configure your DNS MX records to work with Gmail. Once I log in to the control panel, I’ll see detailed instructions on how to complete this step.

Configuring Your Mail Exchange (MX) DNS Records

You can see help page to setup your MX. Check out their instructions for changing MX records using some common ISPs.

  • GoDaddy.com
  • NetworkSolutions.com
  • Enom.com
  • 1and1.com
  • DreamHost.com
  • Yahoo!SmallBusiness
  • DynDNS.com
  • Other ISPs

I did this following step:

  1. Login to my CPanel
  2. Go to Mail Manager Menu
  3. Select Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry)
  4. Click Change an MX Entry
  5. Change MX for my domain to ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
  6. And click Change button

Hint: You must enter a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) as the MX destination.

Warning: Changing your MX to something besides mail.supriyadisw.net will prevent us from managing your mail. Your email will no longer be sent to this server.

After that, I create another user (up to 25 users for free). Well done. I have to wait for a several time to use Gmail for my domain.

Have a nice day…

Good News

I have ask Google Team again to make sure this plugin is acceptable and doesn’t break Google TOS. They said:

Wed, 12 Jul 2006 14:08:20 -0700
Hello Supriyadi,
Thanks for your emails.
The ad placement on
http://www.supriyadisw.net/2006/07/adsense-beautifier
is acceptable by
our policies; as you’ve noted, we ask that publishers
place a visible border between the ads and the images, in order to
avoid
confusion and invalid clicks.

So if your site use background other than white (#FFFFFF), you have to change border color between image and ad in order to make it visible.

Integrate with Adsense Deluxe Plugin

This plugin can be integrate with Adsense Deluxe plugin. Here is my tip:
In Adsense Deluxe plugin option, place your new AdSense code (from adsenseBeautifier Options page) to AdSense code field in AdSenseDeluxe Options page.

To insert any of your defined ad units within template files, you can call a PHP plugin function with the name of the ad unit you want displayed. The syntax is as follows:

<?php adsense_deluxe_ads('AdBlock_name'); ?>

However, it?s strongly recommended that you always confirm that the function is available to keep from generating PHP errors or breaking your page display, using the following syntax:

<?php if (function_exists(adsense_deluxe_ads('AdBlock_name'))) {
adsense_deluxe_ads('AdBlock_name'); } ?>

Note: This syntax little bit different from recommended syntax from Adsense Deluxe Plugin.

Disclaimer

– If You are not really sure to use this plugin, please contact Google Team. Use with your own risk.
– I never guarantee that your CTR or AdSense earning will rise 🙂

Support Me

If you find it useful, please consider donating to help me continue work on the plugin. This plugin is, and will remain, freely available and open source, please only donate if you want to and can afford it.

That’s it. Feel free to add comment here.

😀 Have a great day and gud lak

With Google AdWords we create our own ads, choose keywords to help Google match our ads to our audience and pay only when someone clicks on them.Another definision; Adwords is Googles version of the pay-per-click advertising model. It allows us to display ads which link directly to our website when searches are done for our chosen keywords or keyphrases.
